Legal Cashier
Location: Newbury, Berkshire – Hybrid (4 days office, 1 day from home, subject to passing probation)
Salary: £30,000 – £35,000 per annum

About the Job
Working as part of the Finance team, the Legal Cashier will provide day-to-day transactional and administrative finance support while ensuring activities are completed in line with the Solicitors’ Accounts Rules. The position offers exposure across a broad range of legal finance activities and the opportunity to develop experience across the wider Finance function.
Duties will include:
- Managing daily banking activities, including cheque administration and reconciliations.
- Preparing and processing electronic payments through BACS, CHAPS and online banking.
- Supporting the financial administration associated with conveyancing matters and completions.
- Recording and managing disbursements, including anticipated disbursements and property searches.
- Processing client invoices, bills, credit notes and cost transfers.
- Managing client account transactions, including bank credits and outstanding client balances.
- Completing reconciliations across bank statements, cash books and daily credit records.
- Processing card payments, employee expenses and petty cash.
- Supporting purchase ledger activity and arranging supplier payments.
- Reviewing and processing completion-related financial documentation.
- Monitoring Finance emails, post and general queries from colleagues and professional contacts.
- Providing wider assistance to the Finance Manager and Finance team as required.
About the Successful Applicant
You will have previous experience within a finance environment or be a Finance/Accountancy graduate, with strong numeracy and Excel skills. Knowledge of the SRA Accounts Rules is required, alongside excellent attention to detail, organisation and time management. You will be confident communicating with colleagues, clients and professional contacts and comfortable learning and using case management and finance systems.

Alongside a £30,000 – £35,000 salary, you will benefit from a hybrid working arrangement following successful completion of your probation, with four days per week in the Newbury office and one day working from home. You will also have the opportunity to gain exposure across the wider Finance function, developing your technical knowledge and building a well-rounded understanding of legal accounts.
