About the Job
This role is responsible for overseeing the financial management of a school within a wider trust structure, ensuring budgets, funding and procurement activities are managed effectively. Working closely with senior leadership, the position provides financial guidance, maintains compliance with regulatory frameworks, and supports strategic decision-making to ensure resources are used efficiently.
Duties will include:

Managing the school’s financial planning process, including budget preparation and monitoring.

Producing regular financial reports, forecasts and variance analysis for senior leaders and governors.

Providing financial advice to leadership teams to support staffing, operational and strategic decisions.

Monitoring budgets across departments and supporting budget holders with financial oversight.

Leading financial compliance with trust policies, regulatory requirements and audit standards.

Preparing monthly management accounts and overseeing the month-end process.

Managing cashflow monitoring, income tracking and payment scheduling.

Overseeing procurement procedures and supporting tendering and purchasing activities.

Ensuring accurate financial records, reconciliations and accounting processes are maintained.

Managing financial controls including payments, invoicing, payroll postings and reconciliations.

Supporting audit preparation and responding to internal and external audit requirements.

Supervising and developing finance team members within the school.

Contributing financial insight to strategic initiatives such as staffing models, cost reviews and improvement projects.

Supporting income generation initiatives including partnerships, grants and community activities.
About the Successful Applicant
The ideal candidate will have strong financial management experience, preferably within education or the public sector, alongside knowledge of budgeting, reporting and financial compliance. They will be confident advising senior stakeholders and interpreting financial data to support decision-making. Excellent organisational, analytical and communication skills are essential, along with experience managing financial systems and leading or mentoring finance staff.
