Assistant Accountant – 6 Months – Theale - £35,000 - £38,000 per annum - Hybrid

About the Job
This is a 6-month fixed-term contract for an Assistant Accountant to support the finance team across financial operations, reporting and systems development. The role involves both hands-on processing and contributing to wider month-end, year-end, and budgeting activities.

Duties will include:

  • Supporting the implementation of a new payroll and finance system
  • Preparing and reviewing purchase orders and resolving queries
  • Reconciling balance sheets and fixed assets
  • Assisting with month-end and year-end closing tasks and reporting
  • Processing weekly payment runs and uploading BACS files
  • Maintaining and updating supplier records
  • Handling expenses and mileage claims, including procurement card reconciliation
  • Posting journals and assisting with budget monitoring and reforecasts
  • Supporting pension scheme accounting and related reporting
  • Working flexibly and independently to meet departmental objectives

About the Successful Applicant
You will be part-qualified or hold a relevant finance degree, with strong Excel skills and experience in financial operations, ideally within the public sector. A confident communicator with an eye for detail, you will be comfortable working independently and collaboratively. Experience with finance systems and knowledge of payroll or pensions would be advantageous.
