Head of Payroll - Hybrid Working In Reading - £80000

Our client are a rapidly growing organisation who are setting up a department in Reading. They require an experienced payroll professional to run an efficient and effective payroll team, who will partner with the business to produce a high quality and accurate service. There will be a strong focus on process improvement and automation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Managing, developing and mentoring the payroll team
  • Lead and manage all aspects of the payroll function, ensuring compliance with the latest relevant legislation, statutory filing deadlines and internal management reporting requirements
  • Liaising with HMRC, Pension administrators, Finance and HR as appropriate
  • Development of the payroll software to ensure the system is able to meet the regulatory and strategic needs of the business
  • Review, develop and improve the payroll process
  • Work with the HR teams to ensure that the formula for calculating payroll deductions in relation to leave of absence, sickness absence, maternity leave, paternity leave are accurately recorded in the HR system and are processed in line with the relevant policies
  • Administer any salary sacrifice schemes
  • Timely delivery of all key year-end processes such as P11D's
  • Main point of contact during the audit process for payroll
  • Main liaison point with any 3rd party stakeholders
  • Lead in any future changes of payroll systems
  • To liaise with the Pensions Regulator when necessary to ensure compliance obligations
  • Work with the Pension Administrators to streamline processes to generate efficiency
  • Produce monthly and annual pension returns for Local Government Pension Schemes (LGPS), ensuring that the information provided is accurate and up to date.

The Person:

You will be a strategic thinker, delivering an efficient, effective and customer focused payroll and pension service across the business. You will have managed a large payroll team with a proven track record of developing and implementing systems and process improvements.
