Finance Manager - Oxford - £40,000 Pro-Rata 4 days

The Company

We are delighted to be exclusively partnering this dynamic and innovative Charity based in Oxford to Find a talented Finance Manager. They have recently secured a number of Government led contracts will provide further security to the Organisation over the next few years enabling them to continue to reach their objectives.

The Role

The role of Finance Manager with have full 360 degree ownership of the Finance function and in addition supervision of an administrator. The role offers hybrid working plus being 4 days a week so would suit an individual who wants an exciting varied role combining a strong work life balance.

Role functions:

General: Overall responsibility for the good financial management of the organisation ensuring financial control procedures are observed, accurate records are kept, strong financial reporting is delivered on a timely basis and the organisation is kept up-to-date with current charity finance practice. Ensure that day-to-day financial tasks are delegated appropriately and undertaken effectively.

Monthly financial reporting: the production of monthly management accounts for SMT, providing robust analysis of the current financial position as well as forecasts.

Project financial management: Provide monthly project accounts to project managers, staff and trustees as required, and prepare donor financial reports when required. Contract management: Review of all contracts prior to commitment (projects, staff, major purchasing etc), and ongoing donor relationship management where required.

Accountancy: Responsible for all accounting. Tasks include authorising payments, bank reconciliations, journals, managing restricted and unrestricted funds, internal recharges etc.

Payroll management: Manage the monthly payroll for 10 to -20 employees including payroll year-end, administration of the stakeholder pension scheme, conducting annual salary reviews and keeping up to date with relevant legislation.

VAT and tax: Prepare quarterly VAT returns, Gift Aid claims, Corporation Tax and other government returns. Insurance: Ensure that adequate levels of insurance are in place at all times.

Budgeting: Plan the charity's budgets, resource management and cash-flow forecasts, monitor compliance and performance

End of year accounts: Produce the annual accounts in a timely and accurate manner, complying with charity SORP and managing the annual audit. Ensure the annual report is produced in conjunction with the annual accounts

Systems: Maintain the charity's financial systems, ensuring these are adequate for the charity's financial management and staff understand requirements

Governance: Responsible for quarterly financial reporting and presenting to Trustees. Ensure there is adequate risk management in place, including maintaining the risk register and reporting to Trustees. Act as Company Secretary ensuring that the charity always acts within its statutes, meets its statutory obligations and is kept up to date with changes in legislation (Charity Commission, Companies House etc.)

Administration: Staff management of the Office Manager, providing adequate support, training and delegation of tasks to allow for the effective provision of support to the organisation. HR and Health & Safety: Overview of the charity's policies and procedures including Human Resources, Health and Safety etc.

General Management: Joint responsibility for planning and delivering the charity's long-term development strategies and policies as part of the SMT. Represent the charity to external bodies at all levels. Other duties that from time to time may be agreed.

What will you need to be successful?

  • Experience of all round Accounting in a supervisory capacity
  • Proven experience in financial management at a senior level in small to medium-sized organisations
  • CCAB qualified or equivalent
  • Ability to produce robust management, project and statutory accounts to SORP standards
  • Experience of corporate/charity governance at a senior level, including risk management
  • Evidence of the ability to plan ahead, identify future problems or opportunities, and propose and develop strategies to deal with them
