Job description

Wade Macdonald is currently recruiting for a Financial Controller for a rapidly growing consultancy and profesional services company. Current t/o is £40miilon and due to this continued growth, a new opportunity has arisen with in the finance team based near Reading, Berkshire.

The role:

The Financial controller will report into to the Managing Director but will also work closely with the Group Chief Financial Officer and Group Financial Controller.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the finance team including management accounts, VAT, payroll, bank reporting, sales ledger management and year-end audit activities.

The Financial Controller will become a trusted business partner to the Managing Director and will be responsible for providing profitability and margin analysis to the senior management team to allow them to make commercial decisions. The successful candidate will need to be comfortable dealing with senior members of staff, both financial and non-financial.

You will also be responsible for managing the Sales Ledger and Credit Control team based near Birmingham and therefore will be required to travel to other sites and meetings once a month. The role will be Hybrid working 3 days in the office and two days at home.

Main responsibilities:

Responsible for preparing the following:

    • Management accounts (fixed assets, accruals, prepayments, work in progress, intercompany)
    • Balance sheet reconciliations
    • Debtor and bad debt reporting
    • Creditor reporting
    • Complex variance analysis and month end commentary
    • VAT returns
    • Budgets and forecasts
    • Audit schedules and statutory accounts
    • Corporation tax analysis
    • Payroll processing
    • Treasury management and associated bank reporting

Direct line management on the Sales Ledger Manager and c15 indirect reports:

    • Overseeing a debtors ledger of c£40m, and ensuring debts are recovered in a timely manner
    • Overseeing the sales ledger (invoicing, queries, receipts) and monitoring against internal and external KPI's
    • Reporting individual customer performance to the managing director
    • Monitoring cash / customer performance, and remedying where appropriate
    • Performance management
    • Coaching, training and development of the team
    • Identify and implement process improvements

Supporting the Managing Director / Chief Financial Officer / Head of Finance with ad-hoc reports and requests, around profitability and margin.

  • Challenging assumptions and decision-making as appropriate and providing financial analysis and guidance on all activities, plans, targets and business drivers.
  • Representing finance at the monthly Senior Management Team meeting, and presenting monthly performance to non-financial stakeholders
  • Assist with the implementation and continuous development of the new CRM / Sage system

The successful Financial Controller must be a fully qualified (ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW) Accountant and must have experience of managing a team. Previous experience with in the legal or insurance industries are high desirable but not essential.

Salary

£60,000 - £70,000 plus £7,000 Car allowance
