Chris Goulding Interview

Back to Blogs

After working with Hays for 18 years, Chris Goulding has joined the Wade Macdonald family. He will be working closely with the team as a new Managing Director. Already, he is becoming a big character in the office and is building strong relationships with everyone.

So Chris.. Why Wade Macdonald?

What attracted you to the business?

“I had spent 18 years with a corporate and really enjoyed it. However, the opportunity to join Wade Macdonald really appealed as it was a chance to get involved with a business with huge expansion plans and offers me the opportunity to really help shape the direction of the business going forward.

Joining an owner managed business will give me the opportunity to use my experience and knowledge from within a corporate business but within a flexible environment.”

How would you describe the employees and office vibe?

The office is filled with such a variety of people with big character. There are a lot of jokes flying around, but they are professional people that take pride in the service they are providing to our Clients and Candidates. There is always a buzz in the office bought about by the competitive nature of sales people!

How are you enjoying your time so far?

I’m really loving it so far. It’s great to work with a group of people that take care in what they’re doing and want to be the best in what they do.

What is your biggest strength whether it’s within management or not? And how will this help you succeed at Wade Macdonald?

Training people to become better at what they do, making a basic plan that leads to success and building long lasting relationships, whether that be client, candidate, with the accounting institutes or internal.

What are your goals for the year ahead?

To double in size and cement our position as one of the leading Finance & HR recruitment agencies in the Thames Valley.

And what about the future of Wade Macdonald? What do you envision?

Within 3 years, the business will have tripled in size, with more niche specialisms. My aim is for Wade Macdonald to become the best recruitment agency to work for in the Thames Valley.

Okay so away from the professional and moving on to some more ‘personal’ questions..

What’s your favourite office snack?

Cakes – but I've had so many over the last 18 years I am having to lay off them at the moment!

What’s been your most extravagant buy after a successful month?

I would say an MG convertible but nowadays my kids take the ‘extravagant’ out of my spending.

And lastly, what first brought you into recruitment and why have you stayed?

After finishing university, I didn’t know what I wanted to do but needed a job so I joined a recruitment agency and haven’t left recruitment since.

I honestly enjoy coming into work every day. I have had the opportunity to work with some brilliant people over the years, to help recruit for amazing clients and find talented accountants jobs that have given them satisfaction.

As the years have progressed I have been able to continue to develop my skill set into management, business planning and training (which I love!) No two days are ever the same and I guess the truth is that I get paid for having fun!
